Dr Pippa Mitchell
Clinical Psychologist and Fertility Counsellor
DClinPsych, MSc, BSocWk (Hons).
Pippa knows that the journey to parenthood is not always straightforward, and that challenges related to conception, pregnancy and birth can prompt mixed feelings. She primarily works with individuals navigating fertility treatment, anxiety about pregnancy, pregnancy loss, and adjustment to parenting, though enjoys working with anyone journeying from preconception to early parenting. She has also worked extensively with individuals and families impacted by trauma and attachment difficulties, some of which may re-appear during the perinatal period.
Pippa holds a particular passion for supporting allied health professionals as they care for their own families and patients. She knows the realities of sitting in the space of being both a parent and a psychologist and has supported many health professionals in both therapeutic and supervisory capacities.
Pippa’s approach is curious, compassionate and collaborate, and she endeavours to provide an emotionally safe space. Since undertaking a personal practice retreat in 2015, Pippa has become increasingly drawn to Compassion Focussed Therapy, finding this approach helpful for regulating mood, anxiety, and feelings of safety, particularly when struggling with self-criticism or shame. Other modalities she draws on include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and CBT.
Pippa’s 20-year career spans child and family psychiatry services, paediatric hospitals, adoption and out-of-home care services, and fertility clinics. Having started her career as a social worker, Pippa developed a solid understanding of systems theory and family therapy. Her style therefore considers a person’s broader relationships, as well as their internal thoughts and feelings. Pippa can provide both Clinical Psychology Services and Pregnancy Support Counselling under Medicare and is a registered ANZICA infertility counsellor providing fertility support and donor implications counselling.
Pippa welcomes partners and children and can provides Telehealth services where required.
