Amiee Pember
Perinatal Psychologist
BA(Psych.)Hons, MPsych
Amiee is a Perinatal Psychologist with Community Psychology endorsement, living and working in the beautiful seaside town of Busselton, WA.
Amiee’s interest in perinatal and infant mental health was sparked by her own experience of the transition to motherhood, and particularly the intense adjustment from being a working professional to a stay-at-home Mum. Amiee became passionate about supporting mothers to re-negotiate their identity, coming to integrate their pre-baby Self with their new Mother Self.
Amiee works with mothers presenting across the perinatal period from pre-conception, through to pregnancy and into the postpartum. Presenting issues include adjustment difficulties, depression, anxiety, anger/rage, parent-infant/toddler attachment difficulties, grief and loss, perinatal loss, and birth trauma. Amiee welcomes single parents and same-sex couples to work with her. Amiee also invites partners, babies and toddlers to attend sessions to support the needs of the family.
Amiee works from an attachment framework, placing the parent-infant relationship at the centre of therapeutic intervention. This has been supported through specialised training with the Perinatal Training Centre, as well as in ongoing professional supervision to continue refining clinical skills.
Additionally, Amiee has a special interest in mindfulness and compassion focused interventions aimed at supporting the emotional needs of parents and their children. Mindfulness and compassion skills assist parents to soften in their relationship with themselves, as well as with their children. This enables parents to ‘parent from the heart’, with their values as a guide to strengthening their bond with their children.
